As reported in Russian news outlets, Nvidia started posting an announcement on its “GFN.ru” landing page this week. In the announcement, the company states that Registrations to GeForce Now in Russia will be complete by September 1. GeForce Now servers in the nation will be closed on the 1st of October. According to the announcement the statement, users whose subscriptions extend beyond the 1st of October will be returned.
While Nvidia has declared that it will be withdrawing from Russia but it does not give a reason specific to the decision. In the announcement made by Nvidia, “In the current conditions, we cannot provide the service quality that we have determined for ourselves, that our users expect and deserve.” It uses the words. The phrase “current conditions” mentioned here is likely to refer towards Russia’s ongoing invading Ukraine. Naturally, there could be other factors for the decision to pull out.
No matter the cause, GeForce Now joins the list of tech companies which have stopped activities in Russia. The server shut down is likely to impact other countries like Belarus, Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan. Nvidia has not yet announced whether it intends to collaborate with an alternative Partner in this region, to maintain the service.
